2019 Research the Cure Charity: Sccleroderma Research Foundation

Arbor Assays is proud to offer our Research the Cure™ program for the 8th consecutive year. The program helps support important medical research programs. This year proceeds from each kit purchased will support the Scleroderma Research Foundation as part of our Research the Cure™ program.

Scleroderma is a rare chronic disease that involves an overproduction of collagen resulting in hardening and tightening of connective tissues. Scleroderma can affect skin and joints, or can be systemic, affecting connective tissue in many parts of the body such as the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, kidneys, heart and other internal organs. Scleroderma affects hundreds of thousands of people, and more than 10,000 patients die every year from the most serious forms of the disease. There is currently no cure for this debilitating autoimmune rheumatic disease.

The Scleroderma Research Foundation (SRF) was founded in 1987 by Sharon Monsky, a scleroderma patient who was determined to find a cure for this disease. When first diagnosed with scleroderma, Sharon was given less than two years to live. Eighteen years later, she had beaten the odds in every way and built an organization giving hope to hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Through her pioneering efforts, the SRF has become the nation’s largest nonprofit investor in medical research aimed at understanding scleroderma, discovering improved therapies and, ultimately, a cure. The SRF is the largest non-profit investor in scleroderma research in the U.S and invest over $1.5 million annually to research a cure for scleroderma.
