Congratulations to the University of Connecticut!

Every team fought hard this year, but in the end, UConn ran away with the win. Let’s give a round of applause to the researchers at UConn studying how lipids produced by bacteria in our mouths and guts affect heart disease in mice. They found that giving mice specific bacterial lipids reduced bad cholesterol and slowed down heart disease, suggesting these bacterial fats might help protect against heart disease and liver problems.

We hope you enjoyed this year’s Publication Pandemonium!

It’s that time of year in the United States – spring is in the air and the squeak of sneakers on gymnasium floors can be heard from TV speakers at every home and bar in the country. For three weeks starting in March, fans of collegiate sports and (mostly) friendly competition alike come together over fun, basketball, and good snacks.

To celebrate, Arbor Assays is highlighting another important aspect of higher education – the amazing researchers that make incredible scientific breakthroughs all year round. Arbors Assays is proud to serve many of these institutions with our assay kits and we’re excited to share with you some of the work these teams have been up to.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each of the 68 schools is assigned a publication; it can either be a study authored by a researcher at that institution or highlighting interesting science about their mascot.
  1. Publications progress through the bracket as their corresponding school wins or loses their basketball matchup.
  1. This blog updates each day of the tournament until one publication is left standing!

Read the chosen publication by clicking the link for each school.
